What do you get when you blend a dark comedy and just enough blood and violence while managing to squeeze in a romantic story for the protagonist? You get an action comedy that is pleasing to critics and early viewers alike, and may well be a classic in years to come.
Novocaine is the 2025 release of Robert Olsen and Dan Berk as co-diretors. Few indie movie fans might be familiar with their works Villains (2019) and Significant (2022). Fun fact for all you movie buffs, did you know that filming began in April, 2024, in Cape Town, South Africa?

The film is led by a starry cast, chief of which is probably Hollywood’s most talented nepo-baby, Jack Quaid (Nathan Caine) who plays an equally controversial character with a chilled demeanor in The Boys. Nathan, a bank executive, has a rare condition that allows him to not feel physical pain.
The film begins with a date and crescendos with a failed bank robbery led by criminal Simon (Ray Nicholson). In one scene Sherry (Amy Midthunder), Nathan’s love interest, played by the delectable and talented Amber Midthunder, is kidnapped and kept hostage.
Nathan has no option but to put his condition to the greater good and try to save what is possibly the love of his life. Lots of classic Hollywood fist fights, bloody noses, and silent bravado is on full display in this awfully wild and terribly personal violent romantic comedy.
What do the Critics Say?
While Novocaine can be forgiven for starting off at a slow pace, it makes up for this with some edgy action-packed scenes and an emotional storyline that Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder take the audience on.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Novocaine already has an 88% rating, which is such a big deal for a film of its quality and cast. It is however projected to gross $20 million in America and Canada.
The movie has a March 13th Australia release date and a March 14th release date in the US so grab your tickets and get ready for a pain-free cinematic experience!
